UK dogging explained

Dogging has taken on a new meaning since it was discovered by the Internet. It has come to mean sex with strangers in public parks and woodlands, and it now includes many exhibitionists and voyeurs.

Dogging has been a sexual activity in the UK for a very long time. During the last couple of years it has started to receive massive media attention, and this has changed it's form considerably. A voyeur element has become a major part, and this was not a signifcant factor in it's early form.

Dogging (and the associated "cottaging") developed from the gay cruising that is common throughout the world. The original dogs appeared around the 70's, and were a defence against the "queer bashing" thugs of the time. Pet dogs also started to be used by bisexual men as an excuse to "escape" from their families. The hetero-sexual element was fairly insignificant, although transvestites frequently joined into the activities.

Women didn't begin to join in until the pseudo-moralists started to pressurise the police and councils into attempting to stop cottaging. This was largely unsuccessful and they eventually resorted to bording up or demolishing the facilities. People who were previously unaware of the noctural activities were then forced into the sexual arena when they sought to use the facilities. The inevitable result was that some were recruited into the fun, and the activity was set to expand.

If you are interested in the history of dogging, then check out the current UK sites. You can often find traces of the demolished public conveniences (cottages) close to the wooded areas and car parks used.
